Our focus is your oral health. Seeing your dental hygienist for
regular cleanings and your dentist for check-ups can help you
prevent gum disease and detect problems early, to avoid loss of
teeth or more-involved dental procedures. Old silver fillings
can be replaced before they break down, causing decay and pain.
Teeth with large fillings or that have had root canal treatment
can be covered with a protective porcelain covering called a Crown,
which prevents these weakened teeth from breaking and/or being
For children, we recommend placing a protective coating, called
a Sealant, over their back teeth to prevent cavities. Sealants
are quick and easy to apply, and do not require any freezing or
drilling of your child’s teeth.
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is the breakdown of the bone
and gum tissues that support the teeth. It is the number one cause
of tooth loss in adults and has been linked to heart disease.
Risk factors include: poor dental hygiene, poorly shaped fillings
or crowns, poor nutrition, smoking, diabetes, and even genetics
(children of parents with gum disease are 12 times more likely
to have the bacteria that can lead to gum disease). The existence
of bone destruction under the gums cannot be visually detected.
This makes it especially important to visit your dentist regularly
to have your bone levels measured. Your dentist can then determine
what is needed to treat your gum disease. Often it is as simple
as improving your home-care routine and seeing your dental hygienist
for more frequent cleanings to remove plaque build-up and flush
out disease-causing bacteria.
Crowns strengthen teeth that have been heavily filled, weakened
or darkened because of root canal treatment. They can also be
used to change the appearance of your smile, covering unsightly
large fillings and reshaping your teeth. The tooth is prepared
and a mould is taken to send to a precision laboratory to custom-make
your crown. A natural looking temporary crown is placed over your
tooth to protect it while your permanent crown is being made.
Crowns are placed with special cement that bonds the crown to
the tooth to hold it in place.
These are thin porcelain shells that are bonded to your teeth
to correct stains, crooked teeth, gaps, chips and other imperfections.
They are applied to the front of your teeth to improve their color,
size, or shape. Veneers can revolutionize your smile and build
your self confidence.
If veneers are not right for you, bonding is another alternative
for changing the appearance of your front teeth. White filling
material is applied to your teeth in one visit, to reshape your
teeth, correct gaps and chipped teeth. We can help you decide
whether bonding or veneers are best for you.
Invisalign is a virtually invisible solution for straightening your teeth. The needed tooth movement is mapped out from start to finish using 3-D computer imaging technology. From this plan, a series of custom made aligners is produced. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and is then replaced at home by the next aligner. Gradually your teeth move toward their final position, with average treatment time taking from 6 to 18 months. Invisalign has several advantages over conventional metal braces: The aligners are clear and therefore virtually invisible; there aren’t any metal brackets or wires that can cause irritation to your cheeks or gums; and they are removable. The aligners can be taken out to brush and floss your teeth normally, as well as to eat and drink making them more comfortable and easier to maintain than metal braces.
We offer two types of Tooth Whitening to give you the beautiful white smile you're looking for. In-Office Whitening offers the convenience of of a whiter smile in one visit. A whitening gel is applied to your teeth by the Dental Hygienist to provide optimal colour change in a short period of time.
If you prefer to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, we can make custom-fitted trays from impressions of your teeth. You apply the gel in the trays and wear them for 90 minutes during the day or overnight to whiten your teeth in 7-10 applications.
Natural looking fillings:
In our office we routinely place white fillings that match your
own tooth colour. Instead of unsightly silver fillings made with
mercury, you can have fillings that blend in with your teeth,
producing a natural looking smile.
Root Canal Therapy:
The three most common reasons for needing root canal treatment
are: deep decay, a cracked or broken tooth, and trauma. A root
canal involves removing infected or damaged tissue from the inside
of a tooth and replacing it with a substitute filling material
to eliminate the possibility of pain and infection. New materials
and technology let us complete a root canal in only one sitting.
You will find that the treatment is often easier and more comfortable
than getting a filling.
When you lose a tooth, it has an impact on your remaining teeth
which tend to "drift" out of position. This leads to crooked teeth,
a change in your bite, possible gum disease and cavities. Dental
implants are often the first choice for replacing your missing
teeth, giving you the closest thing to a beautiful, natural tooth.
Compared to other options for replacing missing teeth, such as
bridges and dentures, an implant offers a long-lasting solution
without affecting the other teeth around it. We refer our patients
to a team of Specialists in Barrie, Ontario for the surgical placement
of the dental implant itself. Once the implant heals, our patients
return to our office for the placement of a natural-looking crown
over the implant to complete their treatment.
Fixed bridges are another alternative for replacing one or more
missing teeth. They are anchored by one or more crowns on each
side and are cemented to your remaining teeth. Bridges are usually
completed in 2 visits, giving you a replacement for your missing
teeth that looks natural and functions similar to your own teeth.
Fear is the most common reason that people avoid going to the
dentist. Commonly known as "laughing gas", nitrous oxide can provide
the relaxation that you need in order to get your dental work
completed. It is one of the safest forms of sedation available
and is easily and completely reversed by breathing normally for
5 to 10 minutes following treatment. Nitrous oxide can help you
feel more relaxed and reduce the anxiety associated with dental
procedures. It can also reduce the discomfort and/or anxiety associated
with the injection of local anesthesia or “freezing”. In some
cases (particularly with small children) it can take the place
of an injection altogether. Unlike other types of sedation, you
remain conscious and fully aware during treatment. You are "in
control". The effects of nitrous oxide wear off within 5 to 10
minutes breathing normally. Adult patients are able to drive home
following treatment and you do not feel sedated for the rest of
We can help you protect your smile by making custom-fitted mouthguards
for use while playing sports such as hockey, soccer and mountain
biking. A mould is taken of your teeth and is used to make a comfortable
guard that can be picked up the following day, ready for your
next sporting event.
